Beer Pairing Degustation

I don’t drink beer. But you know what? As long as it is part of the degustation, I am going to dig in!

Anton invited me to this event of San Miguel Beer at Chateau 1771 over at Greenbelt 5.

The whole place was booked for this particular event.

The place had a nice interior and it was pretty cozy.

They prepared this event to promote their other beers. They promoted 3 beers, namely All Malt, Super Dry, and Cerveza Negra, for the degustation paired with their menu shown in the cover photo above. They talked about the history of the company and how beer is supposed to be drank and appreciated.

Anyhow, onto the food! The first course was served with their All Malt.

The 1st course was a scallop dish. I loved the flavor especially the texture of the scallops. They created a crust for the dish using croutons which I think was a clever idea. Moreover, making a creamy sauce brought out a better flavor with the scallops.

The next course was a fish dish. It was a Philippine Sandbass with some Anna Potatoes.

It was still paired with the 1st beer and the texture of the fish was good. It was flaky and light.

Then, we had a kiwi sorbet in preparation for the meat courses. This was the first time I heard about it and it worked.

First, we had this pork hock with some teriyaki reduction and wasabi mayo.

The sauces were wonderful but I think the way they cooked the pork wasn’t well executed. It was pretty dry and a bit tough.

This was served with their San Miguel Super Dry.

Next came the main course which was an osso bucco.

The flavor was great and the dish was properly cooked. It looks gorgeous too! The only thing I didn’t like about it was that they used beef shank instead of veal shank. Nevertheless, it was a tasty dish and it was pretty heavy too.

For our dessert, we had Cerveza Negra. It was a roasted malt beer.

We had a trio of desserts and it was fantastic. I especially liked their ganache tart. The flavor of the chocolate was strong and clean.

Special thanks to Anton for inviting us to this event! It was much appreciated even if I don’t drink beer.

Special thanks to the lovely lady whom I sat with that night for she lent me her camera. Thus, I have nice pictures for this post. Because of these pictures, I am thinking of buying a new camera now.
